Occidental College - Recruiting Info

One of the oldest and most successful intercollegiate sports at Occidental, Tiger women's tennis has established itself as one of the leading small-college programs on the West Coast.

In nearly a century of intercollegiate play, and with a schedule that is among the toughest in NCAA Division III, Oxy has garnered more than 20 conference championships. The Tigers won a national championship in 1982, the same year women's tennis became an NCAA-sanctioned sport, and claimed national runner-up honors in 1986 & 1987.

Since 1976, Occidental has been a member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, long regarded as one of the toughest conferences in NCAA Division III tennis.

Four SCIAC teams finished the 2003-04 season with a national ranking: Redlands ranked 9th, followed by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (10th), Pomona-Pitzer (14th) and Cal Lutheran (18th).

Occidental has finished in the top five of the SCIAC the past five seasons but the recent addition of head coach Cici Louie and a talented group of newcomers could have the Tigers poised for even greater things in 2004-05.
